Department of Excise
Department Profile
The district's Department of Excise is the nodal department in the district to regulate and monitor the sale of alcohol and other permitted intoxicants. In Dima Hasao, there are three Excise Circles that have been created for administrative convenience which are Haflong (Sadar), Umrongso and Maibang. Each of these circles are manned by Inspectors of Excise and are assisted by Assistant Excise Inspectors, Constables and ancilliary staff. The district also houses a Bond House which is also overseen by a resident Officer-in-Charge from the Excise Department. Due to Dima Hasao being a Sixth Schedule district with its own autonomous council, the Excise Department allocates a certain portion of revenues to the NCHAC (North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council) though the Deputy Commissioner's office handles all matters pertaining to granting and renewal of licences, enforcement and regulation.
