Apply for OBC/MOBC Certificate

Overview

Under Article 340 of the Indian Constitution, it is obligatory for the government to promote the welfare of the OBCs.

The president may by order appoint a commission consisting of such persons as he thinks fit to investigate the conditions of socially and educationally backward classes within the territory of India and the difficulties under which they labour and to make recommendations as to the steps that should be taken by the union or any state to remove such difficulties and as to improve their condition and as to the grants that should be made, and the order appointing such commission shall define the procedure to be followed by the commission. A commission so appointed shall investigate the matters referred to them and present to the president a report setting out the facts as found by them and making such recommendations as they think proper.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The Applicant should be a citizen of India
  2. He/She must be a permanent resident of Assam
  3. He/She must belong to a tribe that is recognized as Other Backward Class of the state of Assam

Documents Required

  1. Permanent Resident Certificate or any other proof of residency
  2. Caste Certificate of parents or any other supporting proof of tribe status
  3. Affidavit by the applicant or parents of the applicant in lieu of (2) above
  4. Report of Gaonburah in case of rural areas/Ward Commissioner in case of urban areas (This may be skipped if parents of the applicant have already been issued caste certificate.

Procedure

Applicant will have to submit application as per the standard format prescribed, which has been uploaded for downloads below, at the Public Facilitation Centre (PFC) of Deputy Commissioner's Office, Haflong, Dima Hasao. The application must be complete with all relevant documents attached with the same, list of which has been detailed in the previous paragraph. The applicant, after satisfactory evaluation of his/her application, shall be furnished with the Senior Citizen Certificate within fifteen (15) days from the date of receipt of the application.
